...while "Zack and Miri" may not be the strongest film in his canon, he has still managed to deliver a solid comedy with a charming soft side (Zack and Miri's tryst is quite possibly the sweetest thing he has ever filmed). Smith's films tend to be comic comfort food, and "Zack and Miri Make a Porno" is like a visit with an old friend - you're not quite as close as you once were, but you still know how to make each other laugh.
I'm glad you like him Matt, but (unfortunately) I fall into the half that dislike his work, even though I'm a lifelong New Jerseyan. Still, the first film CLERKS was very funny, and I can't say CHASING AMY was bad, and I have some close friends, who are on board with you. I will see the film, though, at some point.
Very fair, respectful and a superbly-written review.

I am glad The Dispatch lets you use the word porno. What with the controversy surrounding the word usage on television.
Yeah I was actually kind of surprised myself, being a small town paper in a relatively conservative area. But it IS the name of the movie, so it's hard to argue. I was proud of them for doing it.
Sam, I hope you enjoy it. It's a bit of a departure for Smith so you may find more to like here.
